Got to see many facets of Japan - the crazy city life, serene shrines, giant buddhas, hyper fast trains, blizzards and best of all, getting around speaking a language I learnt during high school and have not used since! Enjoy these pictures!
Things got off to a shaky start when rain started to fall on our arrival in the evening. Thankfully, it all cleared by midday the next day, but not before we set off on our wet weather plan to Kamakura and firstly, Enoshima, a small island (connected to the coast by a long bridge) about 90 mins south of Tokyo. And boy was it windy!
... and souvenior shops to remember your trip by! Here we see stores set up by the shrine's staff selling what are essentially good luck charms!
Enoshima is known to be a seaside retreat during the summer, so of course, no populated spot is without its own shrine...

Here's a spot where you (apparently - well, I was just following the others) wash your coin in the running stream, make a little blessing and offer that coin to the shrine by throwing it into a box placed inside the pond. Religion meets Timezone?
Hundreds of people's hopes and dreams are written on wodden placards and placed on these wooden stands placed around the temples. Did I see
Very funky observation deck on the background (and very funkily dressed subject might I add) - not sure WHAT there is to observe up the top though. Basically the island is surrounded 3-sides by open sea!
At the other end of the island...

Check this, a freshly made senbei made out of octopus. Essentially battered octopus were pressed together very tightly by 2 very heavy hotplates, making tentacles look noting more than a biscuit!!
The famous Daibutsu (Giant buddha) at the Kootokuin. It used to be indoors, but the housing was blown apart by a tsunami many years back, leaving it exposed to light and thousands of tourists' camera every day!
