Long-nosed Potoroo (Potorous tridactylus)
Potorous were one of the first mammals recorded in Australia by European settlers. The Long-Nosed Potoroo is one of the three species of Potoroo in existence.
What do they eat? Long-Nosed Potoroos are foragers and eat roots, ffungi and soft bodied animals found in the soil.
Where do they live? This species of Potoroo inhabits coastal heaths and dry sclerophyll forests.
Interesting facts: Females can store a fertilised egg 18 months before impregnated. This is known as embryonic diapause.
Is the population healthy? They are considered abundant with their range throughout Australia, but feral cats and foxes are a constant threat.
