What do they eat?
The Rufous Owl is a predator of birds and arboreal mammals. The talons of this raptor are extremely sharp and powerful, designed to snatch prey such as flying fox from the outer foliage of trees.

Where do they live?
This large Owl is distributed across the noth Queensland coast, Cape York Peninsular, Arnhem Land and the Kimberley. During the day the Rufous Owl roosts in a postion within its rainforest territory. Although secretive and reclusive the bird required a position that ensures a clear view of it's entire surroundings.

Interesting facts:
The alert nature of the Rufous Owl enables the bird to slip away from its daytime roost when an intruder approaches. This behavious rapidly changes at the onset of the breeding season when Rufous Owls vigorously defend the nest.
