Bees and wasps of Hong Kong, plus other insects, animals and other photos香港蜂类与其它昆虫 / 动物的相片。也有些其它相片
Just to share some of my photos which I have taken over the last year or so. I am still a relative newcomer to photography, and after lots of trial and error and lots of bad shots, these photos are some that I can at least be proud of.
I am most into nature and insect photography; in fact, I started learning photography simply to showcase my favourite insects, the bees and wasps.

Album: Tarantulas
Photos of the pet tarantulas in my collection. I am not so good with tarantula photography, so a lot of these are basically practice shots.

Album: Bees and wasps of Singapore: May-July 2005
Photos of the bees and wasps I found during my 6 week stay in Singapore. This trip was quite interesting and productive, although I wish I had better photos of these insects. The same photos, along with a detailed description of the trip, can be found at this link: http://sg.geocities.com/vespa_bicolor/vespid/sgseries/sgtrip2005.htm

Album: Cockatoos at Victoria Park, Hong Kong
Lesser sulphur crested cockatoos (Cacatua sulphurea) can be found in Hong Kong, mainly in the Western and Southern districts. They probably originated from pet birds released long ago, and are quite plentiful now. My first attempt at photographing them in Victoria Park.

Album: Photos of birds, part 1
Bird photography is quite challenging but rewarding. However, I haven't been able to do much because I don't have the right equipment. Even a 400mm lens can be a little short; it is the bare minimum recommended. Furthermore, my 100mm-400mm zoom lens isn't very sharp handheld, and it isn't always easy to approach birds. Here are some of my early efforts.

Album: Water features
Water features such as ornamental fountains, waterfalls (man made or natural) and others are great but challenging photo subjects. There are countless ways to frame the photo and many effects to bring out; you can totally freeze the water in mid air with a very fast shutter speed or bring out a flowing, misty look. Also, such features don't run away so you have lots of time to think about the composition. This album depicts some of my first photos of these features.
