Phra Buddha Chinnarat - In the attitude of subduing Mara, the Buddha is seated with the legs crossed, the right hand is on the right knee with the four fingers pointing to the ground, while the left hand rests in the lap. This is also known as the attitude of calling the Goddess of the Earth to witness. This is related to the time when the Lord Buddha was about to attain his enlightenment. He was attacked by Mara (a personification of evil) and his army. The Lord Buddha summoned the Goddess of the Earth to witness the attack and to save him by pointing the four fingers of the right hand to the ground. The Goddess of the Earth emerged and saved him by wringing the water of merit from her hair to drown Mara and his army. In this way Mara was subdued.
The Buddha statue was made of gilded bronze and dating back from the 14th century image at Wat Phra Si Rattana Mahathat.
It is generally considered the second most important Buddha image of the country (after the Emerald Buddha in Bangkok)

The Buddha statue is a supreme example of late Sukhothai art, regarded as the Kingdom¡¦s most beautiful Buddha image that has served as the model for many other Buddha images.
Phra Buddha Chinnarat is the major attraction, and this is especially true for Thai people.

Golden Mount (Phukhao Thong) and Wat Saket

Wat Saket Rajaworamahavihara is just below the Golden Mount. It was build during the reign of Rama I and is still a monastery. In the main building is a large image of Buddha from Ayutthaya. This is a very quiet temple and it's architecture and design represents total harmony
Wat Saket means "to wash the hair" which refers to the Phra Krayasanan Ceremony held here by King Rama I. The eight boundary markers containing the sacred boundary stones are built in the form of elephant howdah and are considered masterpieces

Sukhothai lotus - The flower's rich symbolism has embellished Thai literature since ancient times. The lotus is associated with heavenly beings. Many Brahman goddesses, have lotus blooms in their hand when portrayed in paintings. A variety of water-lilies share the same Thai name as the lotus

Sukhothai lotus

Sukhothai lotus - The Lord Buddha compares man to four states of the lotus. Thai Buddhists always use the lotus in paying homage to the image of the Buddha. In this symbolic act, three lotus blooms are offered for the three gems or Rattanatrai
