93 years ago at dawn on 25 April 1915, the Australian and New Zealand Armed Corps (ANZAC) , together with other British Commonwealth forces, landed on the west coast of the Gallipoli Peninsula, Turkey. It was a campaign in which casualties were extremely heavy and it has become the custom each year on this day for the Governments and people of both Australia and New Zealand to commemorate their dead of all wars. The occasion has also assumed a wide significance in marking a milestone in the developemnt of their nationhood.
ANZAC ODE They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them.
