I don't know what it is about stairs and escalators that makes them so interesting to photograph. Maybe it's the analogy to life. Like life, you don't want the stairs to be too short otherwise it's over before you know it. At the same time, you don't want it to be too long otherwise you'll be too tired by the time you finish it. Too straight and it's boring, but too many curves and you'll get disoriented. Most importantly, you have the choice to go up or down.
