Yes! That is very good understanding of Burgundy. BTW, in Burgundy, the most important is the wine maker, not the appellation.

1er Cru = Premier Cru, it is referring to he grape from a particular wineyard. That means, the cru is for the grape field rather than village or wine makers....  1er is the second cru from the top.  Above it got Grand Cru.  All the cru thing referring to the field is more high class than village-named wine in Burgundy.

I always like Burgundy more. Compare to the CHANSON's Burgundy this Chambolle-Musigny may relate to Chambolle-Musigny Les Charmes.
Is 1st Cru the same as commune or village Burgundy wines?
Burgundy labels are amongst the most complex to read.

Thanks Tommy for this b-day gift to me, 2004 Pinot Noir 1st Cru, I quite like it, the taste changes over time, interesting wine!
