Freshwater Crocodile (Crocodylus johnstoni) What do they eat? Despite their size, Freshwater Crocodiles's diet consists mostly of insects, frogs, lizards, small fish, crustaceans and some birds.
Where do they live? Freshwater crocodiles are found in rivers, swamps and billsbongs throughout Northern Australia.
Interesting facts: Freshwater crocodiles swallow small stones & pebbles - or gastroliths - which are used to help grind up food in the stomach and to act as a ballast in large crocodiles.
Is the population Healthy? After decades of culling and recreational shooting, Freshwater Crocodiles were once on the brink of extinction. As a protected species their future is hopefully now secure. Andy Yip Crocodiles |
