The Palace of Fine Arts is a building originally constructed for the 1915 Panama-Pacific Exposition. It was designed by Bernard Maybeck.

The Golden Gate Bridge had the longest suspension bridge span in the world when it was completed in 1937 and has become an internationally recognized symbol of San Francisco.

Fisherman's Wharf is a neighborhood and popular turist attraction in San Francisco. Sea Lions at Pier 39's West Marina. They was taking over the docks in January 1990 shortly after the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake. At Pier 45, a WW II fleet submarine, and the SS Jeremiah O'Brien, one of the last remaining WW II liberty ships. 

Alcatraz Island (The Rock), is a small island located in the middle of San Francisco Bay. It served as a lighthouse, then a military fortification, then a military prison followed by a federal prison until 1963. It became a national recreation area in 1972 and received landmarking designations in 1976 and 1986.

The 17 Mile Drive is a scenic road through Pacific Grove and Pebble Beach, much of which hugs the Pacific coastline and passes famous golf courses and mansions.
