Vincent Poon :: Dubrovnik City - Old & New

Besides climbing the city walls and taking the cable car, the rest of our time was spent in the Old City exploring the museums and the churches, getting lost in the alleyways, checking out the Baroque and Gothic architecture, reading up the history and chilling out near the sea side. Although you could find many of these elements in many  other European cities, Dubrovnik in my opinion is still very unique and is definitely worth another visit

The 2nd morning when we woke up we were greeted by heavy rain. Peeping through our bedroom window we could see tourists had to run for shelter during their city wall walk - poor guys
The rain was too heavy and we decided to stay put. Even the bad weather was reported on the TV news
In the evening, the rain stopped and the sky was clear when we looked out from our bedroom window. The best thing about staying next to the city wall is you could now have the whole wall by yourself
The whole day was ruined but we were rewarded with this breathtaking view

This monumental Baroque staircase was the main passageway between the place where we stayed and the Gundulic Square, where all the activites are. They were designed by Pietro Passalacque, who modelled them on the Piazza di Spagna in Rome.
Statue of Dubrovnik poet Ivan Gundulić at Gundulic Square
The reliefs below the Gundulic statue shows a proud lady sitting on the throne and the two beasts, a dragon represents the Ottoman Empire and the Turkish threat while the winged lion shows the threat from Venice
The waiters were just starting to prepare for the dinner after raining for the whole day

The placa street looked empty after heavy rain... people starting to come out to enjoy the remainder of the day
We strolled all the way to the old port. Indeed a very beautiful scene at night
This was an excellent lightning shot captured, it also reminded us to get back home before the rains came again
After spotting the lightning, we decided to walk back. This was near the fortress of Revelin.
