Vincent Poon :: Split

More than just any coastal city along the Adriatic coast, what made Split so unique is that the city itself was once one huge palace of the Roman Emperor Diocletian. Nowadays you could still relive this history once you pass through one of the four gates of the palace

Split's National Theatre
This reminded us to watch rugby world cup even though we were travelling (still the first round at that time)
So they also had Ocktoberfest even in Croatia. Too bad it was still September then
An interesting T-mobile advertisement poster

Round Burek is a very popular food in the Balkan countries.
We went back to the basement of the palace through Brass Gate (where the shops were) and this time decided to pay to checkout the Diocletian’s Cellars
Since the palace was constructed on land that sloped down to the sea, these chambers were built to level out a foundation for the massive structure above. This is the main hall
On the way there were various signs to explain about the days of the palace during Diocletian’s time

Having heard his name so many times, we finally know what Diocletian looked like
I guess these were related to the pipes and sewage of the palace
Some artifacts found in the palace
Another piece exhibited in the cellars...Not sure what it was, except that it must be old...
