Vincent Poon :: Episode V - The Desert Strikes Back!

To make up for the loss in the first day Pawel arranged a local expert to take us to the Camel Mountain and Mos Espa (Star Wars film location) at 6am; followed by a tour in the Palmeraie in Nefta. After that we continued our 2nd day itinerary to cross east through the saltless and waterless salt lake to arrive in Douz where we could have some thrilling action in the middle of the desert at 40C.

The afternoon was spent driving to Ksar Ghilane (100km deep in Sahara) where we were supposed  (but too late) to enjoy swimming in a natural lake and a night under the tent (together with the crying, howling and fighting sounds of unknown animals nearby)...Of course free heating  was always supplied....

The hangars for the microlights
This looked like a proper propeller plane than a microlight
The other hangar has the microlight!
Initially we were told that we couldn't fly because the weather was too hot, in fact the truth was we did not book in advance and the old pilot was not ready. siesta?! Now he would say 'come, come!'

Helen was getting ready for her flight...
For 50 dinars (around HKD250), you get 5 minutes in the air
with that you got to see the sand dunes and some camels and of course the heat was complimentary

All finished, the plane was being put back to the hangar.
For most tours, Douz was as far as you could get to the Sahara or the sand dunes, but trust me, it wasn't impressive there... and that's why we took this tormented jeep safari to check out Ksar Ghilane which was much further in Sahara than Douz
After leaving Douz we headed further into the Sahara desert. Again in the middle of nowhere we stopped here for a coffee break
