Vincent Poon :: Episode VI: The Return of the Weary Travellers

Day 3, after watching the sunrise in Ksar Ghilane, we drove out of the desert to the mountains. The scorching heat continued and we were also given a flat tyre before we reached Chenini the mountain village. Granaries came next though I must admit they were worth visiting. Last stop was in Matmata where we had lunch (at 1500) and also visited the underground Berber cave house. (a must for Star Wars fans)

The last part of the journey was a 6 hours drive all the way north to Sousse. The other jeep had the aircon broken so they were literally soaked. Oh and we missed the famous El-Jem because we got back home at around 2300!

The keys were just hanging on the wall... but then since there was no roof, so I don't think the keys are any more useful...
Doors made of palm trunks
This was the tool for grinding couscous. The Berber woman was a lot stronger than she seems.
Hospitality from the Berber family!

This room was where they weaved/knitted the carpets
Bedroom/living room/dining room? no idea...
The Berber woman also lent out her fashionable collection.. now we know who's from the dark side
This Polish boy looked so much like young Anakin, May the force be with him.

This way led us to the backdoor
This is the rear entrance of the house
We climbed to the top of the house (where I took the interior of the house from above). Pawel was pointing how they collected rain water... clever!
A genuine Berber tent made of animal hides ... this was the last of the sights we saw in this trip, after that it was 6 hrs drive back to Sousse. The aircon of the other jeep broke down during the journey home... poor guys!
