Vincent Poon :: Houmt Souk

Djerba's island's capital lies on the island's northern shore. It is more like a Greek fishing village crossing with a Middle Eastern souq. After two days of strikes I only managed to quickly come over for a quick peek on the last morning and was lucky to see one of the most beautiful scenes in Tunisia

I came to the coast to visit the old fort but instead saw this amazing scenery of the sky and the water that morning
Not only was the boat like floating in the sky, but the sky and the sea were like perfect reflection of themselves
Was really disappointed down south when the salt lake was dried up. Now I thought this really compensated everything!

This old fort is known as Borj Ghazi Mustapha
It was the scene of a massacre in 1560 when a Turkish fleet captured the fort and put the 6000 Spanish garrison to the sword and stacked up their skulls on the shoreline
Guess what? The people inside told me it was not opened. Was I too early or was it closed for the day I did not know....
Nice scenery around the fort though...

It seems the fisherman was more hardworking than the people inside...
Next to the fort there's a large modern amphitheatre
Besides musical performances, it also hosts light and sound shows to the tourists during peak seasons.
I walked along the coast till I reached the marina and the fishing port, which is at the north of the town
