Vincent Poon :: Survival in Cairo
A collection of all the bits and pieces I had done, I had seen in Cairo.. some were nice, some were nasty and most often they were surprising!
Survival in Cairo basically means that you won't get killed by the traffic, you won't get conned by the most innocent Egyptian you ever come across, you can get on to the metro during rush hours... if you can cope with these, then welcome to Cairo!

Midan Talaat Harb, where all my 3 hotels revolve around this hub.
Midan Talaat Harb, a place where you certainly need time to orientate yourself before finally getting lost.
Midan Talaat Harb, where many "friendly" Egyptians will approach you and help you cross the road, then later show you more "Egyptian Hospitality" by conning you.
Groppi's - in its heyday it was one of the most celebrated patisseries in Egypt... now it is just like another Maxim's cake shop

My first photo in Egypt, must be shown here~ :)
Egyptian Museum, where all the loots from their ancestors sleeping places are now placed. The only fake thing inside is the rosetta stone.
The Sadat Metro entrance at the Tahrir Square. This is also one of the places where crossing the street is DIFFICULT.
I must say it is a nice view when looking out of my hostel. (Hotel Vienna)

This is the public bathroom... luckily my room is an ensuite... To do it justice, the toilet seat is clean... well, at the very least cleansed by all the visitors' bottoms.
Lift and stairs of my first hotel building
An exceptionally nice car in the streets of Cairo.. an exceptionally nice way of driving too (look at the right-wing mirror -- yes, it is folded up)
In the Islamic Cairo area, people still use buckets for items transportation. Clever or lazy? (Check out the bucket near the centre)
