Saqqara is a necropolis which was built for the dead. The centrepiece of the area is really the Step Pyramid of Zoser. Originally built by high priest Imhotep (no, not the one in the Mummy Movie) in 2650BC, the pyramid is the world's earliest stone monument and of course the first pyramid built.

Among this city of the dead you are not alone: horses, donkeys and camels will all keep you company.

My chariot of the day: a Peugot! Don't laugh, it has a working seat belt, a working door handle and the window could be rolled up and down. The best I have seen in Cairo.

Hed-Sed (Jubilee) Court. The pharaoh had to run a ritual race here to show his symbolic rejuvenation (and hence is fit enough to rule the country) If he can run, sure he can rule... -_-"
