Vincent Poon :: Eilat (6-7 Sep)

Eilat is found in the southern tip of Israel and is the only place accessible to Red Sea. I came here to look for beaches and bikinis as well as crossing over to Jordan via Aqaba. Compared to Sharm el-Sheikh, everything here was disappointing, well, maybe except for the dolphins...

The Underwater Observatory - 90 steps up and you can see Israel, Jordan and Egypt; 6 metres below and you can see the reef fishes of the red sea
No joke, he was sitting behind me on the plane, with his dog on a passenger seat.. and nope, he ain't blind... and he wasn't the only one doing that on the plane.
Album: Snorkeling in the Dolphin Reef

This is the place where you can get really close to the dolphins, be it by snorkelling, scuba-diving or just be sticking your feet into the water.

This place is a haven to the dolphins. They can come and go as they like and it seems that they have made themselves quite comfortably at home here.

and yes, they don't have to perform at all!

Album: Coral World, Eilat

The Red Sea Underwater Observatory, also known as Coral World Eilat, was opened to the public in 1975. It was the first Underwater Observatory Marine Park of its kind in the world at that time, with observatory 6 metres under water to allow the visitors to see in their own eyes the wonderful lifeforms and inhabitants beneath the Red Sea

Album: Eilat and its Airport

I would not call Eilat a city. With the airport located in the centre of the town, there wasn't much going on there (especially the night life) besides the hotels near the beach. I'd suppose it wasn't the peak season then and this was not a place attractive enough for foreigners for vacations.
