Vincent Poon :: Monastery (Al-Deir)

After spending 40 minutes (and thousands of KJs) you will be awarded with a spectacular sight of one of the best monuments in Petra. The Monastery recently came under the spotlight after the movie Transformers: The revenge of the fallen was released. I personally think it is worth the time and energy of the climb. A must if you go to Petra!

Opposite the Monastery is a strategically placed Cafe inside a cave to tend to your needs
... except that there is no toilet!
Beyond the monastery is a lookout which offers magnificant view over Jordan and Israel
The fellow American Jew I met during my walk up to the Monastery. He visited his homeland and also took some time to tour around Jordan

not sure what it is, if it is a signpost it hasn't served its purpose
View from the lookout over Wadi Araba
If you are bored with nothing to do around the monastery, consider climbing this rock (not sure what for though...)

Can be dangerous if you don't mind your steps
Nice view when coming down... now I can laugh at those coming up... way to go, mate!
