:: Day 8 Phnom Penh 金邊

2006 Jun 17:
Purchased the Mekong Express Bus tickets to Sihanoukville early at 09:30.  At 10:00 took a tuktuk to S-21 Museum (Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum) and spent a cruel 2 hours there.  It was worth the time and worth to pay for a guide for introduction.  Lunch at a guesthouse right across the museum and headed off to the Killing Field at 13:30.  Be warned, lots of real skulls there.  Russian markets at last and then dinner.  After dinner, it was a disco, a bowling alley, then Naga Casino and then the Children Playground (like back to '70s).  Finished off the day at Phnon Penh Cafe again.

here is the sad place
the place of torture and sorrow - Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum (formerly the S-21 Concentration Camp and was a school campus before that). so many people were tortured to dead here, or were locked up in here before they were executed
the room you see here is one of the 8 rooms with dead but fresh corpses when the Vietnamese army defected Khmer Rouge and entered Phnom Penh
each of these guys were important persons and killed in different ways
there are some ridiculous ground rules of this concentration camp

what do you think of these barb wires are for? i thought they were to prevent escape but no, they were to prevent prisoners from killing themselves since one women successfully killed herself by jumping from the 3rd floor before these wires were installed
before there were too many prisoners, classrooms were remodeled like this for holding prisoners
this was our guide inside the museum, thank for him i learned a lot
keys were hanged here

this is also one of the torturing tool which locks the prisoners arms and legs, put a piece of cloth on their faces and start pouring water on their faces
these were only part of the skulls
and those sick Khmer Rouge made a map out of the skull

lunch we had was at a guesthouse right across the genocide museum, interesting isn't it? and it was so popular
this is our driver for the day. his parents were also killed during the Khmer Rouge nightmare.
he was a very nice guy
a tower to store all the skulls found at the killing field
what kind of people would have done that?

these were dumps where those shameless Khmer Rouge dumped the dead bodies after executions
such a scary tree, the animal-like Khmer Rouge killed children by hitting them onto this tree
i forgot how many, but it was said many many naked women and children dead bodies were dumped in here
86 mass graves, 8985 victims
