Vincent Poon :: Morocco 2009
17th - 31st Oct

Visited Marrakesh, Essaouira, all the way from the west to Sahara in the East, Fes, Meknes, Volubilis, Chefchaouen, Rabat & back to Casablanca

Morocco is the place if you want something different. Shop and get lost inside the many medinas... indulge yourself in a luxury riad while tasting some couscous or tajines... How about some fun in a night's out in the 1000 year-old street theatre in Djemaa el-Fna or maybe traversing a giant sand dune on a camel's back in the Sahara for the sunrise?

Album: Marrakesh (17-20 Oct)

My first taste of Morocco... first time to stay in a Riad, first to find my way out in Medina after dark, first time to taste couscous and Tajine... if you are only allowed time to stay in one place in Morocco, think no further!

Album: Essaouira (19 Oct)

Getting to Essaouira was not easy. 3 hrs from Marrakech and 3 hrs back... but I was lucky that I went, not only because I escaped the drench in Marrakech on that day but the port, the medina, the ramparts, and the seafood there made the day completely worthwhile!

Album: A 3 days, 2 nights Sahara trip (21-23 Oct)

From the freezing mountains to the scorching desert, from sandy castles to lushy palmerie; With 9 people from different countries speaking 7 different languages, this 3 days 2 nights trip was more than just any regular field trip you will expect...

Album: Fes (23 - 27 Oct)

Fes, the oldest of the 4 imperial cities, the medina itself is more ancient (1200 yrs old) than Marrakesh's and others. There do not need to have many tourist attractions in Fes as the medina itself already is worth the visit.

Album: Meknes, Volubilis & Moulay Idriss (25 Oct)

One day, 3 places; An imperial city, an ancient Roman city and a Holy town. The trip could be more enjoyable if I didn't have to pack with 6 other people in a Grand Taxi for 1 hour and that I didn't have to get lost in Meknes and that the temperature is 5 degrees cooler...

Album: Colourful Chefchaouen (27 Oct)

Chefchauouen is one of the prettiest towns in Morocco with an artsy, white (or blue) washed mountain village that is most often resembled as the Moroccan Santorini...

Album: Casablanca (28 - 30 Oct)

Casablanca! What I knew about it before was the movie and the song but what I knew after my trip was not much more... one thing I now know for sure, if I return to Morocco again, I would check out other places first...

Album: Rabat (29-Oct)

Rabat, one of the four imperial cities of Morocco, is also the capital city of Morocco. Unlike Casablanca, it is more interesting than it seems especially with the Ocean, Kasbah, the Medina and the peace and tranquility not usually found in a capital city
